Developing a new framework of Self-Understanding
Think about the thing that you are best at. Something that dazzles even yourself when you do or achieve it.
My husband is the ultimate host.
Daughter No 1 is into acting.
And Daughter No 2 it is having fun.
Now what do you excel at and how did you get there? What was the journey like? How did you respond to the challenges along the way? How do others around you react when they see you at your ‘best’.
But the main point is how you determined what your ‘best’ was and wanted to pursue. What was the cause that lead to the effect of being your ‘best’.
The most important thing though, is understanding how to make it work for you so to feel the ‘best’.
My husband figured out early on that he had a bottomless reservoir of charm. He uses it to excel as a host; drawing people in, putting them at ease, including them as part of the community that he creates.
Daughter 1 has the ability to plumb her feelings. She has the power to turn them into a performance and mesmerise her audience.
Daughter 2 has a personality that shines. She likes to have fun to energise and unify people, break down barriers and spread positivity.
None of this happens in a random way. It comes from our framework of self-understanding. Our framework allows us to understand what makes us tick, determines how we respond to situations (especially stressful ones), decide what is important to us and, ultimately, discover the thing that we are best at.
Now if our framework of self-understanding is not up to it, we’re in trouble.
Often we ‘end up’ with our framework. By this I mean it is inherited. Or we don’t know that we have one.
The model I inherited, didn’t allow me to resolve problems, let alone be brilliant or the best at me. It led to hurt, confusion, addiction and a reduction of who I could be. Before I jumped into this journey, I saw all these issues as flaws in me, rather than how I learnt to make myself work. The problem wasn’t my raw ingredients, it was my user manual, so I re-wrote it.
A framework of self-understanding involves all the ideas of how we work. It’s like our operating system.
It illuminates our beliefs, creates awareness, allows us to make decisions that have positive and rewarding outcomes. And it clarifies how cause and effect works in our lives. When you get all this, if parts of the operating system are broken they can be fixed in a sustainable way.
The framework and processes that I have created with Genius You moves a person from a stuck and repetitive groundhog day state, to a state of being able to create a beautiful life using qualities that will release their inherent brilliance.
